San Antonio

Aaron and I unexpectedly had a Thursday off together, so Aaron thought we should take a day trip to San Antonio.  We left Wednesday night after I got off work at 7, drove 4.5 hours, and stayed at Hotel Indigo.  We slept in the next morning until 10ish, then went to Lulu's Bakery for breakfast.  This diner was on Man v. Food, where Adam ate the huge chicken fried steak and the famous 3lb. cinnamon roll. So what did we order?

You can the chicken fried steak above the roll.  Both filled the plate.
We hardly made a dent in the cinnamon roll, but I would have thrown up if I'd eaten any more.

After breakfast, we headed to the River Walk.  On our way there, we saw this building that was built as a fallout shelter.  I guess San Antonio is ready for a nuclear bomb.

The River walk follows the manmade river.  The city has developed it and there are restaurants all along it.  It was very pretty and relaxing.  Got pretty busy around lunch time.  Wish the pictures showed more of it.

There's an owl in the tree.

The Alamo

After we had walked the river, we went to the Alamo.  It's close the the river.  I didn't know much about it, but it's a pretty intense piece of history.  They've rebuilt a lot of it, and most of what used to be the courtyard is now shops.

This represents the line that William Travis supposedly drew in the sand and asked for those who were willing to fight to step over the line.  All but one man did, so the story says.

After leaving the Alamo, we wandered around for a while, then went back to the hotel for a nap.  I was so sore from walking all day.  We went back to the river at 7pm for a reservation at Acenar (a TexMex place).  We sat on the patio, which overlooked the river from above.  As we enjoyed our chips and salsa and table-side made guacamole, we were serenaded by a 3-man Mexican group.  They sang us a spanish love song and told Aaron to kiss me at the right moment.  It came with a price, but it was worth it.  Dinner came afterwards.  I ordered the pork and sweet potato taquito-like dish.  Came with Mexican rice and beans.  It was absolutely delicious!  Aaron had the goat.  It was interesting.  Not bad, just different.  After dinner, we went and got Gelato, but it wasn't very good.  Then we went back to the hotel, trying to not be too nervous about muggers.  The river is pretty well lit, but there are parts where someone could corner you or jump down from above.  It wasn't busy away from the restaurants.  We made back okay, though.  We ended the night watching the Rangers lose game 6 horribly.  Not the greatest end to the trip, but oh well.  We left the next morning to make it back to work.  It was such a fun trip and so nice to get away for a day.  Hopefully it won't be the last time we get to do that.

Dallas Arboretum

On one of the few days Aaron and I had off together in September we decided to go to the Dallas Arboretum (private property turned into landscaped gardens).  The weather was perfect and it was so nice to get out and relax. They were getting ready for the fall holidays, so pumpkins were everywhere.

Aaron the tree hugger.

Such a goof.

Life As We Know It

I know it's been a very long time since I updated, so here are some things that have been going on...

--Both Aaron and I are at the same jobs, although I'm looking for a different one.  We need benefits and I need a more professional, less dramatic work environment.  The salon just changed owners, too, so there are changes coming, including being open on Sundays.  I hate job searching but it's time!
--We booked a cruise for the second week in January.  I had a difficult time finding a new swimsuit since the season is over, but I think I found one that will work.  My choices are very limited.
--Aaron is getting ready for our 2nd exotic pet... sugar-gliders.  The cage is built and most of the food is prepared.  We'll get them in a couple weeks.
--I have overcome my initial fear of roller coasters.  We've been to Six Flags twice and hope to go one more time while they're open weekdays.
--On our way home from church we got t-boned by a lady coming out of the alley next to our house.  She didn't look both ways.  Luckily we were in the Jeep so it hardly did anything to us and we are definitely not at fault.
--We hung out with 2 married couples that moved into our ward.  Aaron grew up with some of them.  It was fun to finally hang out with people in the same life stage as us, and that are LDS.  Aaron's coworkers are cool, but they have a different lifestyle.

I think that's all the news for now.  Don't count on another post for a while.  Knowing my habits, it won't happen soon.

The Joys of Life

So since I haven't updated the blog for a while (and my mother keeps reprimanding me for it), I thought I'd better come up with something. Life is up and down. Marriage gets better and better, but life, outside the few days I get to actually enjoy my marriage, is pretty stressful. I feel bad sometimes for my husband because of my occasional emotional breakdowns. I think I've become more of a girl since being married, meaning I seem to cry more than I used to. In reality, I think I'm just used to being the "chill" girl in an apartment of drama queens, but now that my best friend is a man, I'm the dramatic one. Sorry baby!
As for any exciting details in our daily lives, there aren't many. Aaron and I have opposite schedules, which means precious few hours together. When we do have time, it's usually filled with errands, such as running the family dachshund puppy to the emergency clinic this last Sunday. He was dropped 7 feet off the stairway, resulting is bruised lungs. (He's fine now). That took 5 lovely hours of our evening!
Today also surprised us with wonderful news when we took the mustang in to replace the brake pads. Found out that the rotors are all rusting, caused by the salt spread on Idaho roads when it snows. Also, the front calipers need replacing asap. All of this costing about 700. So, instead we are looking at replacing the mustang with equal value car that will give us better gas mileage. We'll see what happens. I pretty much hate cars right now. We've had many other car issues this year as well, so I'm done with the stress of them at the moment.
As for work, I've dealt with a lot of drama at the salon, which I guess salon's are known for, but enough is enough. The drama aspect isn't too bad right now because there's only me and the manager. However, the fact that there are only two of us means no days off, except Sundays because we're closed. Hopefully we find someone soon. I was lucky enough to have today off. (Doctor wanted me to get blood work done to check cholesterol.) Aaron's work is fairly good. It's not as busy as he want's it to be, but he's doing pretty good.
Aaron starts school in August. We're excited to get that going again so we can move on to the career stage of our lives. He will be studying radio broadcasting. Can't wait to get it done! I'm just glad I'm done with school.
I realize that a lot of this post sounds slightly depressing, but life is good. I have the most wonderful husband who spoils me. He made me breakfast in bed last Sunday morning just because I had a long hard week. He insisted on taking me shopping for clothes today. I didn't find anything, but he was wonderful to think of me. Those are just two of the many things he does for me. He always takes care of me. So, really I shouldn't complain when I am so blessed. Well, hopefully I did enough rambling even for my mother to enjoy. I'll try to keep up with it a little better so my posts won't be so epic. (Even though I know I won't).

The Next Great Jeep Adventure

You'd think one adventure in the Jeep was good enough, but nope, had to have another one. Although this one isn't quite as exciting as the last, I thought it was still good enough to blog. Aaron started another little project yesterday on the jeep (coating the door and hood hinges with bed liner to protect from rust) so all the doors came off. Then, since we both had the day off we went to run some errands. I thought we would take the mustang, but he wanted to take the Jeep. Oh boy! Let's just say it stressed me out big time not having a door, even going as low as 30 mph. I had to hold on the bar above where the door should be. Interesting how much comfort a door gives, and how much stress the lack of one inspires. Of course we were smart enough not to go on the freeway, but still...yikes. Fortunately, the project is finished (and looks fantastic) and doors are back in the rightful places. The adventure was worth it though. I got a new yellow purse and some cute baby outfits for my new nephew and coming soon new niece! Well, that's the end of this episode. We'll see what happens next in the exciting lives of A squared.

Beginning Documentation of AA Wilson

As you all know, Aaron and I have almost been married 6 months (on the 18th if you've forgotten the date...*^#Mom#^*).  So, we decided that we need to start documenting our life and adventures together.  Life has been fantastic here in Texas!  Jobs could be better, but we have them, which is what counts right now.  It's been fun furnishing our future apt.  We hope to be in one soon.  The holidays were fun, especially down here in the South with Santa Clause roping in Rudolph the red nosed armadillo.

We have started our family, not with a child, or a dog, but with a hedgehog who we named Rosie.  She's a little bigger now than she is in the photos, but not much and she won't get bigger.

More recently, we got Aaron a different car because the Kia wasn't cutting it.  It's a Jeep Wrangler with a soft top and it's super fun to drive.  Our first adventure happened with our new purchase this last Sunday.  We decided to go for a nice relaxing drive, or so I thought.  Aaron, however, had other plans.  In short, we ended up getting stuck in a mud pit that used to be a pond.  He just wanted to muddy the jeep a little as jeeps are meant to be, but the tires couldn't handle that amount of mud.  We tried for a good two hours to get it out with me behind the wheel (YIKES!) and Aaron pushing, digging, squelching through the mud, and piling wood and hay behind the tires.  Sadly we had to leave it overnight.  We walked through a field until we arrived at civilization and Aaron's mom kindly came and got us.  Thank goodness for cell phones!! Aaron and his dad went back the next morning with a jack to tow it out.
Not exactly how we wanted to spend our Sunday evening, but we laugh at the experience now!

Well, that's about it for now.  I'll try to keep the updates coming.
